Best-selling novelist Danielle Steel, known for her tales of romantic fulfillment and tear-jerking drama, wrote the story adapted in the melodrama A PERFECT STRANGER. Raphaella Phillips (Stacy Haiduk) is a young woman married to aging millionaire John Henry Phillips (Darren McGavin), and despite their difference in age, both are very happy and in love with each other. But when John has a stroke, Raphaella must care for him as he slowly dies. On a cross-country flight, she meets Alex Hale (Robert Urich), a divorcee with whom she begins a loving relationship. But her guilt over cheating on her sick husband, as well as her fear over what his reaction might be, leads her to break off the relationship with Alex. Alex, however, has no plans of letting her go easily. Will Raphaella allow herself to be wooed by A PERFECT STRANGER?
