Cage Fighting (or Mixed Martial Arts as it’s also known) is one of the world’s fastest growing sports. It is violent, shocking, some say barbaric, but ultimately hugely popular. Inside the cage, punching, kneeing, kicking, elbowing and choking are all allowed - in fact, very little isn’t. Whilst men have dominated the sport for years, now, female fights are becoming an increasing attraction. Cage Fighting Women follows the fortunes of two British female fighters as they travel to America for the biggest bouts of their lives. Both women have their own reasons for stepping into the cage and both are prepared to lay their safety on the line in search of success. This film is an in-depth portrait of these women, which analyses their motivations for taking part in this most macho of sports. The film also explores the complex and often difficult relationships both fighters have with their male trainers - who, in both cases, also happen to be their partners. With intimate access to training sessions, family life, fight nights and beyond, this film offers a unique glimpse into this extreme sport and explores the sacrifices made by the women who choose to enter its arena.
