Modern families experience life in previous eras. In the first series - "The High Street" - a group of shop-keeping families are transported back to the birth of the high street in the 1870s, and propelled through a century of change, right up to the modern era and the 1970s. In the second - "The Family" - three families explore what it means to be a mother, father and child in British society today and throughout 100 years of change, as they experience life across five eras of British life.
