Hanbun no tsuki ga noboru sora: Yuichi always sneaks out from the hospital to take walks, and to break his habit, Akiko barricades the door. But, she makes a deal with him: if he promises to become friends with a new patient she'll remove some restrictions. The new patient is Rika, a 17 year old girl in the eastern ward who enjoys reading. At first, Yuichi lies about reading the same book she is, but Rika sees right through his act and demands that in exchange for her forgiveness he has to do whatever she wants. One day, Rika asks him to take her to Mount Hodai despite her weak health. It was the place her father went before he died, and she believed that by doing so she'd lose her fear of death. Yuichi sneaks her out of the hospital and he realizes that he isn't doing favors for her because she asks him to, but when he tries to tell her why he's really helping her, he faints.
